I will certainly be doing my bit during the Beijing olympics. I would encourage everyone else to do the same. Come August, I plan to switch off the telly, and not watch even a single second of it. I will walk away from any conversation that even briefly touches on the subject. I would applaud the moral integrity of any country or athlete who refuses to participate.
Of course, I think that about every olympics. This time however, not only would a boycott serve to have less people watching boring sport, it would also humiliate the fascist barbarians in control of the Chinese State. This can only be a bonus.

Can do chief.
Aye aye.
It's going to be rough pal, I didn't want to speak for you...
Well, thats two
For all the products made in China we buy, and all the multi-billion dollar trade deals and so forth, we all know that China's biggest weak spot is the TV ratings that Channel 7 gets in August.
By the way, you seem to have messed up the sidebar. You've got
Dave
(greater than/less than signs instead of square brackets) as your heading for the Blogroll.
That's a good point Dave. But you shouldn't under-estimate the psychology side of this. In Chinese (and more generally, Asian) culture, one's standing in the world is considered very important.
China is a preening debutante, contemptuous of her peers, but anxious for their approval, and Beijing '08 is her coming out party. A worldwide boycott of the games would send a very powerfull message, that for all her economic, diplomatic, and military bling, the community of nations to which China belongs considers her to be nothing more than a vicious, spitting whore.
If the olympics could be used as leverage to force this ganster state into adopting a more reasonable stance on human rights, it would bring the tally of things the olympics are useful for to one.
Also, thanks for pointing out the blogroll thing
Also, I think we should stop going to Chinese restaurants and rename a certain children's game to "freedom whispers".
freedom whispers
Good one Fitz.
No, I think it should remain "Chinese whispers." The game is based on noticing how scrambled and incoherent a message can become after many generations of repeating it ad-nauseum without any open discussion.
Is it wrong of Australia Post to sponsor the 2008 Olympic team?
I will forgive them if they print a special "free Tibet 2008" series of stamps to be used exclusively throughout the games.
I would like to propose that the Australian Olympic team put "Free Tibet" on one side of their official uniforms...... And "I ♥ Falun Gong" on the other.
Would you watch then, Sam?
Yes, and I think being chased by the chinese police would give our sprinters even more incentive to run. We might have a few world records, even despite the pollution.
Hi Sam
Long time no see. I can't wait for the olympics. Everyone stays home and gets plugged in and you have the library, cafes and pubs to yourself.
Yours in boycotting solidarity,
Helen
Thanks Helen, long time no hear (from (you)). Do you have an email?
