I wish I had something to say about Charlton Heston because I'd really like to have a post with the title "From His Cold Dead Hands". Alas, I don't, and so can't.
You know what would be really cool? If someone broke into his house and stole only his guns, got caught and used "but he gave me his permission" as a line of defense.
